AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas will stick with coach Shaka Smart next season after the Longhorns won five of their final six games and were fighting for a spot in the NCAA Tournament before it was canceled amid the coronavirus scare. Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte tells the Austin American-Statesman that Smart will stay. Smart was facing open speculation on his future with the Longhorns at midseason when the program was mired near the bottom of the Big 12. The Longhorns had missed the tournament in two of the previous four seasons. Smart is 90-78 overall at Texas but just 40-50 in the Big 12.

UNDATED (AP) — Austin Carr played at Notre Dame in an era when prolific scorers dominated the college game. He scored an NCAA Tournament-record 61 points against Ohio in the first round in 1970. Carr was drafted No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers the next year. He averaged almost 35 points over his college career and he scored 45 points or more in five of his seven NCAA Tournament games. Carr says he's surprised his record in the tournament continues to stand 50 years later.

UNDATED (AP) — A panel of Associated Press sports writers has come up with the top 10 men's basketball games in the history of the NCAA Tournament. The fourth game on the list is Villanova's victory over Georgetown in the 1985 championship game in 1985. The Wildcats shot 90 percent in the second half and deprived Patrick Ewing and Hoyas a second consecutive title. Ewing scored 14 points while tournament MVP Ed Pinckney had 16 for the Wildcats. The final score was 66-64.
