ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Clemson is getting a playoff first-timer for its fourth consecutive College Football Playoff appearance. The ACC champion Tigers will play Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl. It is the fourth consecutive playoff appearance for the 13-0 Tigers. They have never played in AT&T Stadium, and their only Cotton Bowl came on New Year's Day 1940.
UNDATED (AP) — Parity has become more prevalent in college football over the last few decades, but not at the very top. Notre Dame is just the 10th team to reach the four-team College Football Playoff in the five years of its existence. Alabama has played in all five playoffs and Clemson has made four. Oklahoma is in for the third time. If Alabama and Clemson win their semifinals, they would meet in the playoff for a fourth straight season and play for the national title for the third time in four years.
NEW YORK (AP) — It's only December, but UConn showed it's the best team in the country with an early season win over Notre Dame. The Huskies topped the Irish 89-71 on Sunday in the women's Jimmy V Classic behind a stellar effort by freshman Christyn Williams, who had 28 points _ six points off the school record for a freshman held by Tina Charles.
ATLANTA (AP) — Paul Johnson is heading to Motown for his final game as Georgia Tech's head coach. In a bit of a surprise, the Yellow Jackets were selected Sunday to face Minnesota in the Quick Lane Bowl at Detroit's Ford Field on Dec. 26. The 61-year-old Johnson announced last week that he is retiring after 11 seasons at Georgia Tech.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Asia Durr scored 19 points, Dana Evans added 17 and No. 5 Louisville used several runs over the final three quarters to blow out Tennessee State 107-52. The winless Tigers trailed 29-25 early in the second quarter before Louisville turned up the defense. The Cardinals forced six turnovers leading to 12 points during a 14-2 run for a 43-27 lead. They then scored the first 16 points of the third quarter to blow the game open.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Grace Hunter had 21 points and 10 rebounds, Aislinn Konig hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points and No. 13 North Carolina State rolled to an 85-67 win over Old Dominion.
