Victoria, British Columbia - James Sanford scored a power-play goal 32 seconds into overtime as the Utah Grizzlies (16-14-0-3) defeated the Victoria Salmon Kings (21-8-2-2) 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. It marks the second overtime win for Utah in less than 24 hours.
For the second-straight game, Utah never led until the final score as they fell behind 1-0 after one period.
Justin Bourne (11) tied the game at one 9:53 into the second period with Keith Johnson picking up an assist. The Salmon Kings went up 2-1 at 15:22 of the second with Patrick Coloumbe getting a power-play goal.
Utah tied the game at two with a power-play goal of their own from Sean Offers 3:06 into the third. James Sanford and Olivier Labelle added the assists.
A late third period power-play carried into overtime for Utah. The Grizzlies recorded the game-winner following a timeout called by Head Coach Jason Christie and proceeded to pick up the game-winner.
Goaltender Nathan Lawson improved to 10-5-0-1 on the year as he stopped 31 of 33 shots.
Utah went 2-4 on the power-play and 4-5 on the penalty-kill.
Shots in the game were even at 33.
The Grizzlies complete their season-long seven-game road trip Wednesday in Idaho. Face-off is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
Utah returns home Friday, January 11 and Saturday, January 12 hosting Idaho at the E-Center
