Hitting the Halfway Mark

with no practice scheduled for next Thursday, BYU is currently slated to hold 21 camp practices, before prep for Northern Iowa begins next Friday.

That makes today's practice #11 of 21, so the Cougs start down the downhill side of camp this morning.

I'll be looking to see how much closer MLB Matt Bauman is to seeing full contact, and if MLB Matt Ah You makes it back from his bruised sternum suffered yesterday morning. If Bauman and Ah You are both kept out of contact, we could see freshman Iona Pritchard with the "ones" at Mike linebacker.

David Tafuna (concussion) could remain out--yesterday, Jordan Pendleton was the first-string Kat safety, with Andrew Rich backing up Kellen Fowler at Free. Bronco has said Andrew Rich is probably the first safety in off the bench at either Kat or Free safety, but for yesterday at least, Pendleton was getting the Kat reps.

BYU's two Pac-10 opponents have seen their share of personnel issues in camp. The UCLA Bruins's QB situation has been well-documented, while at Washington, the thin wide receiver position has gotten even thinner.

Returning only 11 WR receptions from last season, 6 of those catches have left the team, as this Seattle Times story explains.

Throw in the hamstring injury to QB Jake Locker, the academic ineligibility of the team's leading tackler from last year and some other key ailments, and the Ty Willingham "hot seat" is already plenty warm.
