Bees edge out Grizzlies 8-7 in extra innings

Adam Pavkovich singled in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning, as the Salt Lake Bees edged the Fresno Grizzlies 8-7 on Thursday night. Terry Evans singled off Kevin Gryboski to lead off the tenth and was bunted to second by Reggie Willits. After Ryan Budde walked, Pavkovich bounced a single through the left side of the infield to bring home Evans from second base, as Salt Lake equals a franchise record with its tenth straight victory.

Jose Arredondo (1-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief. The Bees' bullpen was outstanding as Matt Wilhite, Jason Bulger and Arredondo combined for seven shutout innings after starter Kasey Olenberger was roughed up for seven runs in the three innings. Fresno opened the game with six runs in the top of the first, but Salt Lake answered with six runs in the bottom of the first with the final three runs coming home on Ryan Budde's first home run of the season. Freddy Sandoval had two hits and two runs batted in to help lead the Bees extend their overall record to 18-1, which is the best in all of organized baseball.
