Workshop focuses on relating through sports

Brigham Young University is hosting workshops for teachers in order to get them to connect to others through sports.

The idea is to relate to one another out on the playing field, perhaps the soccer field.

"We're using a book by an author named Frank Foer, 'How Soccer Explains the World: An Unlikely Theory of Globalization,'" said Cory Leonard, assistant director at the David M. Kennedy Center at BYU.

Leonard says sports helps people empathize.

"What we're focusing on is the positive, the good that sports can do to bring people together," he explained.

He says seeing the world through soccer is one way to connect with others.
