SALT LAKE CITY — The woman who's accused of starving her 12-year-old stepson pleaded guilty to being involved in his death on Monday. Nichole Scott, 50, appeared in the Second District Court and pleaded guilty to first-degree felony murder, three counts of second-degree felony aggravated child abuse intentional or knowing, two counts of second-degree felony obstruction of justice of a first-degree felony, third-degree felony endangerment of a child, and class-A misdemeanor possession or use of a control substance. As a part of the plea deal, the original charge of child abuse homicide was dropped for the murder charge. Scott was accused of causing the death of her husband's son, 12-year-old Gavin Peterson, who was found on July 9, unresponsive on the family's bathroom floor by first responders. Authorities also arrested and later charged Gavin's biological father, 46-year-old Shane Peterson, and his brother, 21-year-old Tyler Peterson. Shane and Tyler Peterson pleaded guilty to Gavin's death on March 20.
