Wife bought gun day before attempted homicide, police say

OREM — A woman pointed a gun at her husband's head and pulled the trigger twice in a homicide attempt Friday, police said.

The gun did not fire because Jennifer Waite, 40, forgot to load the gun before pulling the trigger, according to the Orem Police Department. Waite bought the revolver the day before the incident, investigators said.

"(Waite) and her husband got into an argument and she took the handgun out of a dresser," said Lt. Craig Martinez.

She went back to the dresser drawer to get ammo when a third-party contacted the police, Martinez said. Police said they received a report of the family fight at 6:39 p.m.

Waite left the home before police arrived, but they said an officer located her van several blocks away and was able to take her into custody.

During a search of the van, investigators found the gun Waite allegedly used to attempt to shoot her husband, Martinez said.

Waite was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide and domestic violence in the presence of a child. There were two 17-year-olds in the home at the time of the incident, according to Martinez.

She was booked into the Utah County Jail.
