Utah politician Lawrence Topham dies

(KSL News) A colorful character on Utah's political scene for decades has died. Lawrence Rey Topham ran as a minor party candidate for a variety of offices, including governor of Utah and president of the United States.

Topham was a devout Constitutionalist who believed the payment of taxes and the use of paper currency were illegal. He once convinced a federal grand jury to indict the Federal Reserve Bank for issuing illegal currency. The case was never prosecuted.

Topham died Sunday of complications of diabetes. He was 71.
