WEST VALLEY CITY — Police arrested a man Thursday who they believe committed nine different robberies to support a heroin addiction.

Christoper James Hewett, 24, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of six counts of aggravated robbery. He is also expected to be connected to two more robberies in Taylorsville and already had a warrant out for his arrest for a charge of retail theft filed in Tooele Justice Court in September, according to court records.

"Christopher has committed a total of nine confirmed aggravated robberies over the last month. Christopher committed one of these in Tooele, two in Taylorsville, and six in West Valley City," a police booking affidavit states.

"On each robbery mentioned, Christopher approached a cashier, threatened them by claiming he had a firearm in his jacket pocket, brandished from his pocket with his hand in the pocket and ordered them to empty the cash register," according to the affidavit.

The most recent robbery was at Seagull Book in Taylorsville on Thursday, according to police. Other businesses Hewett is accused of robbing include Jamba Juice, CBD American Shaman, Papa Murphy's, Sally's Beauty, Baskin Robbins and Beatrice's Herbs, which are all in West Valley City.

Hewett is suspected of stealing between $1,800 and $2,000 total from the nine robberies.

"Christopher confessed to the robberies to support his addiction to heroin," according to the affidavit. "Christopher stated he spent all of the money on heroin."
