Underground blast shuts down Salt Lake City streets

(KSL News) A small underground blast of sorts has shut down several streets in downtown Salt Lake this afternoon.

Officials say an electrical line came in contact with some water and blew a manhole cover 2 feet into the air. A yellow-green smoke then began spewing from the open hole.

Crews closed 400 South between State Street and 400 East, as well as 200 East between 300 South and 500 South. TRAX service in the area was also suspended.

Traffic in the downtown area is extremely heavy right now due to those closed roads.

Luckily, no one was hurt.
