Remodeled home unveiled in North Ogden

Lori Prichard reportingLast Wednesday we introduced you to a group of teens from North Ogden who planned a home makeover. Today they revealed the home to the family who lives there.

What started out as a youth project has turned into a community-wide effort.

When the group started off, they were just going to renovate the kitchen and exterior of the house. The plan was to start Monday and be done by last Friday at 5 p.m.

But on Wednesday, the group decided to do the bathroom. Then on Friday, four hours before they were supposed to be done with the house, they decided to do the entire house.

The owner of the home, Mr. McKinley, said, "I've been excited about it ever since they asked me about it two months ago."

When the house was finally revealed, Mrs. McKinley said, "Oh, it's fabulous!"

More than 40 volunteers -- youth volunteers, 15 adults, and 30 or volunteers who just were walking down the street and decided that they wanted to pick up a hammer and help -- put all they had into this project. The renovations cost $150,000 and the total number of volunteer hours was 5,000.

The McKinleys are currently raising four grandchildren in their home, but they say they've raised a total of six grandchildren.
