Jury acquits Broomfield teacher of child sex assault

DENVER (AP) — A jury has acquitted a suburban Denver middle school teacher who was accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a student for nearly a year, starting when she was 13.

The Denver Post reports (http://goo.gl/t73PHw ) 46-year-old Christian Rocky Armstrong was found not guilty Tuesday of five counts, including child sex assault.

Prosecutors say the history and geography teacher at Westlake Middle School in Broomfield assaulted the girl between August 2012 and May 2013.

Defense attorney Christopher Decker says Armstrong and his family are taking some time to "recuperate and heal from what an allegation like this brings with it."

Joe Ferdani, a spokesman for Adams 12 School District, says a hearing officer will decide Armstrong's employment future.
