College students are growing more worried about the economy and what the recession means for their lives. But the University of Utah hopes a new program will help.

Professors say it seems those students who don't know about how the economy works are the most stressed.

Family and Consumer Studies Professor Jessie Fan said, "It's like, ‘Oh it's crashed, it's down 5 percent, it's down 6 percent.' You worry."

But she says students who understand finances are not as stressed out about the current events. She says she hopes new certified financial planning courses she is helping develop at the U will help students.

"It's a very important part of life just to manage your own finances. It certainly reduces stress," Fan said.

She says the courses can also go toward what is a very in-demand career right now.
