Police mum on investigation into Springville man's death

Sam Penrod reportingThe questions continue today into yesterday's death of a Springville man who was found dead inside his home.

Police today remain very quiet about this case, saying only that the investigation continues into the man's death. But questions remain, especially after police served a search warrant at the man's home last night.

Authorities received a 911 call from the home late yesterday afternoon, when the man's mother-in-law reported a family was sick from carbon monoxide poisoning. When firefighters arrived, they found a 35-year-old man on the floor. He was unresponsive and was later pronounced dead. Firefighters did not detect any carbon monoxide or natural gas in the house.

Police became suspicious however, when the man's wife refused to let officers search the house to look for a cause of his death. So officers got a search warrant and spent about 45 minutes inside the house. They picked a lock to a room to gather evidence.

Police say the man's wife is still in the hospital, but they are not saying what she is being treated for. The couple's two young children were checked out of the hospital and released to relatives.

Police are not releasing any information about the man's identity, what was seized from the house, or any theories about what may have happened to the victim. We do know the state medical examiner has conducted an autopsy, but any initial reports have not been released. So for now, family and friends of the man continue to wait for more answers about why he died.
