Woman shot, injured in West Valley home

WEST VALLEY CITY — A woman was shot and injured Wednesday night in a home, and a man was taken into custody in connection to the shooting.

West Valley police said they were alerted to the shooting just before 9 p.m. near 4600 S. Carnegie Tech Street (4685 West). Officers were told a man remained in the home with the wounded woman.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the woman trying to get out of the house's second-story window and calling for help, West Valley Police Lt. Bill Merritt said. Officers then called into the home asking the man to come out, but he said he couldn't, so officers entered the home.

Merritt said the man inside complied and was taken into custody.

First responders applied a tourniquet to the woman's arm, according to the lieutenant, and she was transported to a hospital. Merritt said he believes she will be OK based on the location of her injury, but he did not say exactly where she was shot.

Merritt said the man and woman might be in a relationship, but that information hadn't been confirmed.
