WEST JORDAN — A West Jordan man is accused of using his ex-girlfriend's phone to lure a man to his location and then fire more than a dozen rounds at him, according to prosecutors.

Omar Muktar Hussein, 18, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with two counts of aggravated assault resulting in serious injury, a second-degree felony; obstructing justice and 11 counts of discharge of a firearm, third-degree felonies.

On Nov. 30, a man was shot once in the arm and once in the hand, according to charging documents. The victim told police he had met a woman on Snapchat a few days earlier and agreed to meet her.

But that night, Hussein went to the woman's residence before the victim arrived, got into a fight with her and took her phone, the charges state.

When the victim later arrived at the residence, he walked up the driveway but then discovered he had allegedly been blocked by the woman on Snapchat. The victim walked back to his car to leave, the charges state, as Hussein watched from his car nearby.

The victim began driving away when Hussein opened fire, leaving the victim's car "riddled" with bullet holes, according to the charges. Police say 13 rounds were fired. Hussein then buried the gun at an undisclosed location in Magna, the charges state.

"(The victim) planned to meet Hussein's former girlfriend … Hussein took (her) phone before the incident and used Snapchat to identify and lure (the victim). Hussein pretended to be (her) and communicated with (the victim). Hussein blocked (the victim) on Snapchat and then opened fire on (his) departing vehicle," prosecutors said in summary, while requesting that Hussein be held in the Salt Lake County Jail without bail, pending a trial.
