SPRINGVILLE — A North Salt Lake man was arrested Monday after police say he chased his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend with a knife while telling him he was going to kill him.
Edwin Andres Garces-Betancourth, 32, was booked into the Utah County Jail on Monday for investigation of attempted murder and stalking.
Police say the problems began Friday when Garces-Betancourth went to the boyfriend's house in Springville where his ex-girlfriend is staying and slashed the man's tires, according to a police booking affidavit.
The next morning, the boyfriend went outside to take pictures of the damage "when Edwin sped around the corner in his vehicle, pulled up right next to the victim, got out of his vehicle and began to chase the victim with a large kitchen knife. While Edwin was chasing the victim with a knife he was saying, 'I am going to kill you!'" the affidavit states.
The man was able to get back inside his house unharmed and call 911. The couple then received a call from Garces-Betancourth stating he "was going to stay in the area and come back to stab the victim after police leave," according to the affidavit.
