OGDEN — A foot pursuit with an aggravated robbery suspect ended in gunfire early Friday morning, sending an officer to the hospital and leaving the man, a known gang member, dead, according to Ogden police. The incident began just after 2 a.m. at a West Haven Motel 6, located at 1206 W 21st Street, Ogden police Chief Jake Sube said in a press conference. Officers of the Ogden Metro Gang Taskforce were attempting to take a man into custody in connection with an aggravated robbery that happened three days earlier, when a victim was robbed at gunpoint. "The suspect is a known white supremacist gang member with an extensive criminal history," Sube said. Sube said the man, whose name was not released, fled from officers on foot when they approached. The chief said the man "produced a firearm" during the foot chase, and two officers with the task force fired their weapons, killing him. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. "One gang task force officer sustained a gunshot wound to the lower leg during the incident," Sube said. "While the injury is significant, thankfully it is non-life-threatening and the officer has been released from the hospital." The Weber County Attorney's Office initiated an investigation, the chief said. The officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave, per standard protocol.
