COVE FORT, Millard County — A semitruck driver is critically injured after hitting a rail and going off the road in Millard County on Tuesday.

The semitruck was heading south on I-15 near the I-170 junction when it drifted off to the right and hit the end of a guardrail, the Utah Highway Patrol said. The truck continued off the road and hit an embankment about 5:30 p.m.

UHP Sgt. Cameron Roden said the trailer of the truck impacted the truck in the crash. The driver was transported to a hospital in critical condition by a medical helicopter.

The right southbound lane of I-15 in the area was expected to remain closed for several hours after the crash while crews cleared the road and investigated the accident.
