OGDEN — A man accused of robbing an Ogden bank in August has been arrested.

Javier Rosales De la Cruz, 35, of Hooper, was arrested Thursday and charged Friday in 2nd District Court with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.

In August, police believe De la Cruz entered Chase Bank, 125 West 12th Street, and handed the teller a note demanding money, according to a police booking affidavit.

"As the teller was retrieving money from her drawer, the suspect told the teller to give the note back to him. The suspect lifted his shirt and the teller saw the black grip of a handgun in the suspect's waistband," the affidavit states.

Based on surveillance video from the bank and surrounding businesses, police were able to get a license plate number of a vehicle the alleged robber was believed to be driving, the affidavit states. From a prior 2019 case in Clinton involving the same vehicle, police determined that De la Cruz was suspect, according to the affidavit.

When De la Cruz showed up for a scheduled appointment with his probation officer from Adult Probation and Parole on Thursday, investigators matched his tattoos with the ones seen on surveillance video of the bank robber, according to the affidavit, and arrested him

Police noted that De la Cruz was on felony probation at the time of his arrest. In October 2020 he was convicted of two counts of identity fraud. He was given a suspended sentence of up to five years in the Utah State Prison and placed on three years probation, according to court records.
