Tom Callan reportingA mother is charged with endangering her baby shortly after giving birth.
On Christmas morning officers responded to the Colonial Village Motel near 1500 South and Main Street. "Officer Farnsworth responded to a motel. At the motel he learned that the defendant had given birth to a baby," explained Alicia Cook, spokeswoman for the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office.
Cook says the baby was still tied to the umbilical cord when the officer arrived. Near the baby they found crack pipes and heroin.
Diane Valdez admitted she used heroin just hours before her baby was born. She will be back in court April 17.
