Mayor Corroon among many endorsing river-preservation effort

(KSL News) Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon is among a number of public officials endorsing an effort to preserve the Jordan River.

Along with Envision Utah, more than 2,300 people joined together to help create a "Lake-to-Lake Vision." They hope to turn the neglected river corridor into a major community asset by creating a nature preserve along the river, commercial "river centers" that cluster development and completing the multi-use trail.

A large development is proposed in Draper next to a possible new FrontRinner rail stop. That development will be built on a parcel of significant open space along the river.

One county council member is urging UTA to take another look. "It doesn't have to be a collision course, you know. We can do the transit stop in a place that won't impinge on the nice quality open space along the Jordan River, and if you can have your cake and eat it too, so to speak, why not do it?" Councilman David Wilde said.
