Man robs bank in grocery store

Alex Cabrero reportingAnother bank robbery, and a blatant one at that, has investigators searching for the suspect. This time, the target was inside a Smith's grocery store in American Fork.

The FBI is now involved in this case that happened two weeks ago, and they are asking for your help to find the suspect.

Surveillance video shows some very clear pictures of the man. He never takes his hand out of his pocket, except when he finally gets the cash he demanded from the bank teller.

FBI Special Agent Juan Becerra said, "We have to assume he is armed, and he is dangerous, and more importantly, for someone to do something so desperate, in a grocery store, really lends us to believe it is a serious situation."

The FBI says it's not too often they deal with a robber who targets a bank in a grocery store. When they do, they say it means the robber is usually an extremely violent person.

"For that, that gives us even greater concern because this means this person could very well escalate," Becerra said.

And in a busy grocery store, like the American Fork Smith's, it's likely no one there had any idea what was going on.

"We're very concerned this individual, who is alleged to have a gun, is going to hit other grocery stores, especially on the weekend where banks are operating," Becerra said.

The robber is described as 6 feet, 3 inches tall, in his mid 40's, with short black or brown hair. He also had a mustache at the time of the robbery.

Police don't believe he's the man who robbed five banks a few weeks ago, but they're concerned because of the bold way he robbed this bank.
