Man injured when elevator falls

Two construction workers experienced a frightening ordeal when an elevator in a downtown building went into a free fall. One of them was injured in the incident.

It happened Tuesday afternoon at the Boston building, which is being renovated, at 375 S. Main Street.

One of the workers told the Deseret Morning News the two were riding to the top when he believes some rods poking out of the escape hatch hit the roof and knocked the elevator off track. It quickly dropped a couple of stories until the safety latches kicked in around the second floor.

One of those metal rods hit one of the men, briefly knocking him out. He may have a broken jaw.
