MIDWAY — Utah leaders are encouraging residents to get outside and explore the state’s trails as part of the Walk250 Challenge tied to America’s 250th anniversary celebration. Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson joined community members, local leaders, and business partners Thursday morning at Wasatch Mountain State Park in Midway for a one-mile hike along the Huber Grove Trail. The statewide Walk250 challenge encourages Utahns to complete 250 miles of movement before the end of 2026 while exploring parks, trails, and outdoor spaces across the state. “We’re hoping a lot of people are engaging in to get out there to touch some grass, see the beautiful nature and connect with your neighbors or strangers,” Henderson said. Organizers say participants can count any miles logged since June 2025 toward the challenge. Utahns who complete the 250-mile goal may qualify for prizes, recognition events, and other opportunities throughout the year. Midway resident Emily Belanger said the challenge highlights Utah’s wide range of landscapes and outdoor recreation opportunities. “Because this county is so vast. It’s so diverse. In geography, weather, and to just be grateful for the abundance of nature in our county,” Belanger said. Participants who finish the challenge by certain deadlines can qualify for events including the Utah Summer Games and drawings for adventure getaway packages. “Any Utahn that celebrates or participates logs their hours and completes them actually has some opportunities to win,” America250 Utah Executive Director Nicole Handy said. Utahns can register for the Walk250 Challenge, submit miles, and learn more at the event website.
