Group protests bailout bill at state capitol

Amidst all the headlines of the economic crisis, a group of Utahns gathered at the State Capitol this morning to show opposition to the recently passed bailout bill.

Members of the group Pyrolitical.com say they think the bill was passed too quickly and left taxpayers in a lurch. Organizers of today's protest believe the Federal Government purposely disregarded the will of the American people by passing the $700 billion legislation.

This morning's rally began with the reading of an open letter to Washington that expressed how the group feels about the legislation and the politicians who voted for it.

Carson Kinikin, with Pryolitical.com, said, "The passage of the bailout bill was not earned through hard work and innovative thinking. It was purchased by bribery and coercion."

The group is seeking a response from Utah legislators who voted for the bill, specifically Sen. Orin Hatch, Sen. Bob Bennett and Congressman Chris Cannon. Thomas Dyches, the co-founder of Pyrolitical.com, says the lawmakers have some explaining to do about the extra millions of dollars in spending that helped push the bill through.

"We don't understand how they could vote for something that was such a violation of the Constitution. It was completely wrong, a void of principal, so we just don't understand it. We want to understand it," Dyches said.

He says members of Pyrolitical consider their group to be a task force for the common man or woman, voicing concern about legislation that is unfair or unethical. The group says it has contacted all three Utah representatives who voted for the bill to get some sort of response, but no one has given them one. That's why they say today's protest was necessary.
