Group: More Utah children lack health insurance

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Health care advocacy group Families USA says census figures show that more than 100,000 children in Utah aren't covered by health insurance.

Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, says state lawmakers need to close the gap.

Families USA says the average annual number of uninsured children in Utah grew by 18,500 to 107,000 during 2005-07 over an earlier three-year period.

The group says it hired the U.S. Census Bureau to break out the figures.
