SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating an accidental discharge of a firearm on Thursday afternoon. Police say the suspect was fleeing from police at the time and was trying to discard the gun when it went off. The suspect also suffered a self inflected gunshot wound when the gun went off and was taken to the hospital. Suspects was wounded in his lower extremities but doesn't have life threatening injuries.

Police say is no current threat to the community but traffic will be shut down on 900 South between 300 East and 200 East. Allegedly no officers discharged their weapons. This is a breaking story and may be updated.
