Donnelson to skip Republican debate

NORTH OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- A Republican state lawmaker facing a June 24 primary says he will skip a debate that's already been scheduled by party officials.

Rep. Glenn Donnelson says he doesn't think he'll gain anything by debating with challenger Ryan Wilcox on Friday.

Wilcox says voters need to know where the two stand on the issues.

But Donnelson, of North Ogden, says Republicans shouldn't debate each other because it doesn't benefit the party or his campaign.

Wilcox is a former legislative assistant who narrowly beat Donnelson at the Weber County Republican Party Convention in April to force a primary ballot.
