Democrat Bob Springmeyer running for governor of Utah

Bob Springmeyer says there's one thing he knows for sure: Utah can do better than it's doing right now. He says, "I am going to focus on education, economic development and health care insurance."

On the issue of health care, he says, "I am not satisfied that more than 400,000 people in Utah, including 135,000 children, have no health insurance, and many more families are struggling to keep up with rising insurance costs."

When it comes to education, he says, "I am not satisfied that one-third of Salt Lake School District students and almost half of Ogden students drop out, and far too many of our Hispanic students end up dropping out. Pretty great is just not good enough anymore!"

Springmeyer filed the paperwork today to officially run for governor. He says Utah's a great state, and he'd like to see it become greater. "These are serious problems. Utah needs to address them, and I think I can give that leadership that it needs," Springmeyer says.

One thing Springmeyer would like to do is encourage more people to teach by paying off their college tuition.
