SALT LAKE CITY — A man from Colorado was shot and arrested on Thursday night after police said he entered a Provo Canyon residence unlawfully. The Utah County Sheriff's Office said several people were home when the man entered their house at 8 p.m. That's when the man allegedly went further into the home and caused damage to property after one resident asked the man to leave. "That caused great alarm to the other persons in the home, who then locked themselves into a bedroom," police said. Police said the person who originally asked the man to leave armed themselves with a handgun, and attempted to ask the man to leave once more. "The suspect then attacked the resident, who defended themself by firing several shots at the suspect," police said. "The suspect was struck once by gunfire and then fled the home." Police said the man stole a truck after he fled the scene, which is when officers stopped him while responding to the incident. He was arrested, treated at a hospital and taken to the Utah County Jail. According to police, the Utahn who confronted the Colorado man sustained minor injuries. The incident was still under investigation; however, police said they have not found any ties between the Colorado man and the Provo Canyon area.
