Clinton campaigning for Utah votes

Whit Johnson reportingAs we approach our Primary on Super Tuesday, democrats are increasing their focus on Utah voters. Today Hillary Clinton spoke to KSL via satellite; her daughter Chelsea made an appearance at two Utah colleges.

Utah's 29 democratic delegates are very important to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Pollsters say the Obama campaign has been quite energized in Utah, but today the Clinton's answered back with a strong push for support.

Tonight, the venue was Weber State University. Several hundred people were on hand to see Chelsea Clinton, many of them students.

Brandon Mars said, "I want to know concrete where they stand on all the issues before I make my decision."

Chelsea's trip to Utah is part of a nationwide effort from the Clinton campaign to reach out to every state. "It's ridiculous that we spend billions and billions of dollars more through the drugs that we buy," Chelsea said.

Chelsea made appearances at several locations and answered tough questions about issues ranging from health care to foreign policy.

Meanwhile, KSL was one of a dozen TV stations across the country granted time to speak one-on-one with Senator Hillary Clinton via satellite. Our Richard Piatt asked about Utah's role in her campaign strategy.

Sen. Hillary Clinton told him, "It's a state that democrats usually don't compete in, but I certainly want to try to get my message out and rally the democrats who are there, because it would be great to have Utah play a more active role and pick the democratic nominee."

The goal is to gather interest and support ; at the very least, they've captured some Utahns' attention.

WSU student Liz Rich said, "It's just really cool to see someone. I mean it's not Hillary Clinton but it's her daughter."

Again, Utah's primary is on February 5th, Super Tuesday. Pollsters are predicting a large turnout.
