Calls to Utah County dispatchers will cost cities 35 percent more

SPANISH FORK, Utah (AP) -- Utah County cities will have to pay a little more for 911 calls.

The County Commission has increased the fee for calls to dispatchers to $15.50 each -- a $4 increase.

Sheriff Jim Tracy says it's to help keep up with rising costs. The county's dispatch center serves 26 police, fire and ambulance services in cities like American Fork and Payson. It costs about $3.6 million annually to maintain the center.

American Fork will see an increase of about $52,000 -- or the cost of one patrol officer.

Provo, Orem, Pleasant Grove and Springville have their own dispatch centers.
