Board of Regents meets to discuss future of colleges

(KSL News) The State Board of Regents met today to discuss the future of Utah's public colleges and universities.

The regents outlined their priorities for the upcoming legislative session, which includes lobbying for higher compensation for faculty. "We're playing a national market when we're trying to attract faculty to our institutions, and we need to make sure that we're competitive with their salaries, and so that's a big priority for us,"explained Amanda Covington.

The board also discussed the master plan for Salt Lake Community College and the future Utah Valley University. Officials say Salt Lake Community College is seeking to expand its role with a campus in Tooele County.

The board also discussed its goals to improve college preparation, participation and completion of the switch from a college to university for Utah Valley University.
