Authorities start search for indicted sect members

SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP) -- Texas authorities on Wednesday began looking for five members of a polygamous sect indicted by a grand jury on charges of child sex abuse and other crimes.

The five men were indicted Tuesday with Warren Jeffs, leader of the Utah-based Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

One man was also charged with bigamy and another charged with failing to report child abuse. The identities of the men and details of the accusations remained under seal until their arrests.

Schleicher County Sheriff David Doran says his office has warrants and indictments in hand. His tiny west Texas department is working with Texas Rangers to arrest the men.

Jeffs was convicted of rape as an accomplice by a Utah jury last year and is currently in an Arizona jail awaiting trial on other charges.
