AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — An Austin teacher has resigned amid accusations that he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl.

Thirty-three-year-old John Baird, who taught at Reagan High School, has been charged with enticing a child, which is a third-degree felony. His attorney declined to discuss the case Wednesday with the Austin American-Statesman. He said that his client also wouldn't comment.

Police say Baird met the girl from Lago Vista on Facebook. They say he assaulted the girl after driving her to his Austin home without her parents' permission.

The Austin school district issued a statement saying the girl wasn't a student of Baird's. A district spokesman says school officials learned the math teacher was under investigation by Lago Vista police over winter break. He says Baird resigned Monday when classes resumed.
