SALT LAKE CITY — The campaign of presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney announced Tuesday they will share the vice presidential pick on a new app for the iPhone and Android smartphones.
Campaign advisor Beth Myers, who has been responsible for the selection of the potential vice president, sent an email to Romney supporters early Tuesday morning, saying those who download the app will be the first to know the "VP scoop."
"These last few months, I've had the privilege and honor of leading Governor Romney's search for a vice presidential running mate," Myers said. "While I won't be breaking any news today, I wanted to let you know how to be the first to get the VP scoop with our new Mitt's VP app."
The app has a place for users to follow Romney's Twitter feed, check in to "My Mitt," check the status of the VP pick and a place to quickly make a donation to the Romney campaign. The app also allows the Romney campaign to see users' locations.
Kristi Yamaguchi defends Romney
The super PAC Restore Our Future, which is pro-Mitt Romney, released a new ad featuring former Olympian Kristi Yamaguchi, who offers a testimonial about the success of the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.
The ad highlights the budget deficit and troubles the Olympic Games were facing before Romney took over. The ad continues with testimonials about Romney's success and ability to turn the games around.
"Mitt Romney brought a huge sense of hope," Yamaguchi says.
Obama confident he'd win today
With only a few months to go before the election, President Barack Obama is confident in his chances of reelection. President Obama told a crowd of supporters Monday he is confident he could win if the election were held today.
If the election were held today, I think it would be close, but I think we'd win.

"If the election were held today, I think it would be close, but I think we'd win," he said. "And we now have 99 days left. If I can say that every day for the next 99 days, then we'll be able to embark on the next phase of this journey."
While the overall polling numbers remain close, Real Clear Politics, which gathers national polling data and gives an average, says Obama leads by a 2 percent margin, which is less than the standard margin of error.
President Obama has lead by as much as 5 percent, as of March, but the polling numbers continue to remain close, and don't show signs of changing. Who Mitt Romney chooses as his running mate could be one of the deciding factors in this close race.
