Prospects brighter for Nevada keeping early vote status

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada's chances for keeping its early vote status are looking brighter after a meeting at the Republican National Convention.

The group's 112-member rules committee met and approved tentative rules overnight that don't change the first four states in the presidential nominating calendar. Nevada is the fourth state to weigh in on the Republican presidential nominee.

Nevada's place in the 2020 calendar still isn't final. The rules could change when the convention formally begins next week, and a separate committee is expected work on the nominating process overall.

Nevada GOP Chairman Michael McDonald told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the state crossed the early hurdle because the February caucuses were better-attended and better-organized than in 2012.

The state gets more attention from candidates when it's earlier in the order.
