WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department is asking a federal judge to delay ruling whether former Secretary Hillary Clinton should face questions from a conservative legal group about her use of a homebrew email server.
U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan is set to hear arguments Monday about a request from Judicial Watch to depose the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. In a written motion Friday, lawyers for the government asked Sullivan to delay deciding the issue until the department has processed scores of additional work-related emails exchanged by Clinton.
The new emails recovered as part of the FBI's recently closed investigation into Clinton's use of a private server and were not among the 55,000 pages she provided to the department from her tenure as the nation's top diplomat from 2009 to 2013.
