ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — A roller coaster at Six Flags amusement park in North Texas came to a sudden stop and temporarily stranded about 20 riders before park employees led them to safety.
The Shock Wave roller coaster appeared to be making its initial ascent Friday in Arlington when it abruptly stopped. Park spokeswoman Sharon Parker says a computerized safety system detected low air pressure and stopped the ride. All guests were safely escorted off and the ride was closed while the proper adjustments were made and the roller coaster returned to normal service.
People remained on the ride for about a half-hour before workers led them one-by-one down steps that run adjacent to the track. The removal of the riders was slowed by safety bars that remained in place on the coaster's cars.
