Obama warns Russia...Russian planes land in Crimea...Soaking California

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is warning Russia there will be costs for any military intervention in Ukraine. Obama says the U.S. is deeply concerned by reports of Russian military movements inside Ukraine, and says violations of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity would be destabilizing and invite global condemnation.

SEVASTOPOL, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine's fugitive president has resurfaced after fleeing Kiev last weekend. Viktor Yanukovych (yah-noo-KOH'-vich) is in Russia, where he condemned his ouster as a "bandit coup." He's vowing to "keep fighting for the future of Ukraine," but ruled out asking for Russian military help. Yanukovych says: "Any military action in this situation is unacceptable."

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — A spokesman for the Ukrainian border service says eight Russian transport planes have landed in Crimea with unknown cargo. He tells The Associated Press that the people in the planes refused to identify themselves and waved off customs officials, saying they didn't require their services. Earlier today, Ukraine's U.N. ambassador told the U.N. Security Council that Russian armed forces have seized Crimea's main airport.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Heavy rains are soaking California today, snarling traffic, causing power outages and threatening mudslides. Swiftwater crews from the Los Angeles Fire Department have rescued two men and two dogs from a tree in the surging Los Angeles River. The rescue took place near Dodger Stadium as the storm filled the river with fast-moving water carrying vegetation and debris. Forecasters expect the storm to linger over the state through tomorrow.

NEW YORK (AP) — The stock market is back where it started the year, ending the day mostly higher. The S&P 500 rose 5 points to 1,859, while the Dow gained 49 to finish at 16,321. Weakness in technology stocks hobbled the Nasdaq, which lost more than 10 points, falling to 4,308. For the month, the S&P 500 gained 4.3 percent, recovering the ground it lost in January.
