House committee poised to vote on guns on campus
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — People are crowded into the Idaho Statehouse's Lincoln Auditorium, waiting to testify before the House State Affairs Committee about a bill that would allow students, staff and others to carry guns on college campuses.
Presidents of all eight public universities and multiple police chiefs oppose the bill, and more than 200 people protested against it on the Capitol steps Thursday.
Republican Sen. Curt McKenzie of Nampa, who is the bill's sponsor, said Friday morning that he was surprised by the extent of the opposition.
He said he addressed all the concerns from universities and colleges that sank a previous version of the bill in 2011.
McKenzie's bill passed the Senate 25-10 earlier this month.
The committee is poised to vote whether to send it forward to the House floor for debate.
FRAUD SENTENCE
Ex-construction lobby chief sentenced for fraud

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A highway construction company owner who once led one of Idaho's most-powerful building groups has been sentenced to seven years in prison and ordered to pay $3.1 million in restitution.
The Idaho Statesman reports that 67-year-old Elaine Martin received the sentence Thursday in U.S. District Court in Boise.
Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill agreed to release Martin from the Ada County Jail for six weeks to take care of medical issues before going to prison.
Martin of Meridian, a former Associated General Contractors president in Idaho, was convicted in September of 22 criminal counts, including filing false tax returns and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. of millions of dollars.
Martin owned highway guard rail installer MarCon Inc., doing work in Oregon, Idaho, Nevada and Utah.
BOMB THREAT ARREST
Police: Man in custody following bomb threats

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A 52-year-old Boise man police say made bomb threats to a business has been arrested on suspicion of making false reports of explosives in public places.
The Idaho Statesman reports that Michael Scott Fox was taken into custody Thursday by Boise police and faces two felony counts.
Police say the threats happened between Sept. 26 and Oct. 20.
TRAILER PARK-LAWSUIT
N. Idaho trailer park residents sue owner

MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — About 150 residents at a northern Idaho trailer park in Moscow have filed a class-action lawsuit against the owner after going for months without potable water.
The Lewiston Tribune reports the lawsuit filed Wednesday against Magar E. Magar in 2nd District Court comes about two months after the water was deemed undrinkable even if boiled.
The residents are being represented by attorneys at the Idaho Legal Aid Clinic in Moscow.
Magar has 20 days to respond.
The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality sued Magar on Feb. 6 contending Magar violated wastewater and drinking water requirements.
The agency says Magar isn't providing adequate water pressure and isn't complying with testing and reporting requirements involving the presence of coliform bacteria, chlorine and lead in the water.
That lawsuit is still pending.
