EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Lafayette College is announcing plans to expand its campus, changes that could result in more financial aid for students.
The Morning Call of Allentown reported Friday that (http://bit.ly/2afkmT4 ) the expansion involves razing about a dozen homes the college owns on McCartney Street for the construction of new student housing with some 550 beds.
Roger Demareski, Lafayette's vice president of finance and administration, says the expansion will be the biggest the college has undertaken in at least a decade.
The additional students and their tuition will make it possible for Lafayette to increase the amount of financial aid it disburses.
Officials say Mayor Sal Panto Jr. supports the expansion for a school he calls a major player in the local economy.
