PINSON, Ala. (AP) — The angry and vocal co-founder of the extremist, pro-gun III Percent movement has died.
The Southern Poverty Law Center said in a news release Wednesday that longtime-militia leader Michael Brian Vanderboegh died Wednesday at home after battling cancer.
The 63-year-old described himself as a "Christian libertarian" and used his internet blog "Sipsey Street Irregulars," to promote his anti-government views.
The blog, started in 2009, helped Vanderboegh to gain notoriety. He often used his soapbox to blast the Obama Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives or any supporter of tougher gun-control laws.
Vanderboegh wrote in 2013, "If you try to take our firearms we will kill you" when a gun safety advocate suggested only police and the military should have firearms.
Vanderboegh's death was first reported by The Kansas City Star and confirmed by his friend David Codrea.
