Gene Kennedy Reporting When fire destroys a home, victims usually stay with family or the Red Cross puts them up in a hotel. But that wasn't the case for a family of six in Magna.
The Good Samaritan in this story is the next door neighbor. He says anyone would have done what he did, but fire fighters and the victims were definitely grateful to be able to stay here while they deal with an upsetting situation.
From the ceiling, to the floor, to the bathroom—there was nothing but a mess. That was the result of a fire last night. Unified Fire Authority has not determined what caused it but the family has an idea.
They think there was an electrical problem in the bathroom.

The man, his wife, and their four children got out fast. They ran to a firehouse just down the street.
Vivian Summers, Helped Fire Victims: "The two youngest, the baby is one, the other is four, and they were asleep and had it been much longer the whole family would have been gone, so we're grateful that they're all alive."
Not only safe and sound, but not far from where they lived...they're in the house next door!
Capt. Allen Norton, Unified Fire Authority: "A neighbor had a vacant house that's he volunteered to put the people up in for the night."

Vivian Summers: "We have a twin bed so we took the mattresses over and he told them they're welcome to stay there because they needed a place to stay for the night."
Paco De La Cruz, Family Spokesperson: "Oh yeah, they very appreciated that one."
People helping people. Even before the fire was out, fire fighters certainly noticed the good will.
Capt. Allen Norton, Unified Fire Authority: "It's the first time it's happened to me in 12 years."

Fire fighters told us there's thousands of dollars in damage...the home may be beyond repair. But the neighbor helping this family thinks with enough money and the right contractor, it could be fixed it's just going to take some time.
In the meantime, they've got a place to stay thanks to that neighbor.
