Gene Kennedy Reporting Domestic-violence related homicides do not seem to be dropping by much. In 2006, 28 domestic-violence related deaths, that's only a few less than in year's past. It's been the talk at the Utah Domestic Violence Council this afternoon.

There were several high-profile cases in 2006 that we're taking a second look at. Domestic violence isn't always abuse from one spouse to another. It can be abuse or harm from a family member living with you.

Take Laura Hauck from Bountiful. Police say her son Jeremy Hauck killed her and put her body into a freezer. That's one of the cases on the 2006 list.

Also included Tina Rene Evans from Stansbury Park. Police say her boyfriend stabbed her to death and her children were in the basement when the attack occurred.

And in Utah County, a similar story back in October. Police say Tonja Nash's live-in boyfriend beat her up at their home in Orem. When she ran outside, he allegedly shot her in the back in front of a neighbor and a seven-year-old girl.

Of the 28 domestic-violence related deaths for 2006, 20 involved guns. The Utah Domestic Violence Council says these senseless deaths indicate the need for more public awareness, for people to know the warning signs that lead to domestic violence.

For example, people isolating themselves from family, animal abuse, intimidation and put-downs. There are several and you can learn more on the website listed above.
