SALT LAKE CITY -- It has been almost a decade since the crime, now William Booty could finally stand trial for the murder of his wife.
In July of 2000, police found Booty in his car with a hose connected to the exhaust pipe, apparently trying to kill himself.
He then led officers to his home, where they found the body of his wife Melody. She had been strangled to death.
Since that time, Booty has been a patient at the Utah State Hospital. A competency hearing today could determine if he is now ready to be tried for the murder.
