PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Utah County officials say homelessness in the county is down this year by about 24 percent.

Lloyd Pendleton, director of the state's Homeless Task Force, says about 450 people are usually homeless in the county annually, based on a survey conducted each January.

Pendelton says he believes homelessness in Utah County might be down this year because they're moving to Salt Lake City or other areas that have more shelters.

Pendleton says families make up 46 percent of the homeless population in Utah, compared to 42 percent a few years ago.
