Alex Cabrero ReportingSome parts of downtown Salt Lake looked more like a demolition derby today. A man, police say was driving drunk, smashed into several cars in several spots.
In all, police say nine cars were hit by this drunk driver, in less than an hour. Eventually, he stopped, but only because he banged his head on his steering wheel.
Curt Kofford: "Well, I was coming here to help my daughter at school."
Curt Kofford never met Mindy Stevens and Mindy Stevens never knew Ashley Thompson, but all of them are now connected, thanks to 45-year old Greg Hardin.
Joe Cyr, Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "This man is gonna face some very serious consequences, not just from an insurance perspective, but also from the criminal perspective."
That's because police say Hardin is responsible for several crashes throughout Salt Lake City today.
Joe Cyr: "So far, we have three accident scenes, at least nine cars involved, and several stop signs."
One of those cars belongs to Kofford and his wife Louise.
Curt Kofford, Crash Victim: "This guy come around the left side of me and clipped the front of my truck and spun me around."
Louise Kofford, Crash Victim: "He was really moving. Really driving fast, and pieces were flying off, and he didn't seem to care what was flying off or following or whatever. He just kept going."
Just kept going, right into Steven's car.
Mindy Stevens, Crash Victim: "I thought he was gonna stop, but he kept coming towards me and I turned away and he smacked into the side of me too."
That all happened near a school off 10th East and McClellan. Later, at 2nd South and 3rd East, Hardin met up with some girls.
Sariah Alcaraz, Crash Victim: "He hit the guy behind me, and the guy behind me hit me, and then I hit the person in front of me."
Ashley Thompson: "If we didn't have our seatbelts on, we probably would've gotten hurt."
There was lots of damage to lots of cars and police say it's all because Hardin was driving drunk.
Louise Kofford: "Well, I thought he must've been something. I'm so glad there were no school children out in the street because as he went up on the lawn, he could've wiped out children."
Fortunately, no one was hurt. Hardin is now in jail facing five charges of hit and run and one charge of DUI.
